Have you ever considered escalator etiquette?
In Taipei, when ascending or descending escalators, stationary people stand to the right, leaving the left hand side clear for people who prefer to walk up or down the moving staircase, as seen in this short video.
This is especially apparent when using the MRT.
It’s a wonderful example of collective culture in action. Without exception everyone adheres to the unwritten escalator rule. And in doing so, escalator traffic flows smoothly and efficiently.
